Sharing
and Discovering
No
wealth but life
A
weekend at Glenthorne, Grasmere,
4 -
6 June 2010
hosted
by Janet and Phil
Entwistle of Beverley Meeting
In
the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District
and the relaxing atmosphere of Glenthorne, we’ll take a look
together at what kinds
of “wealth” really matter to us.
When
ever-increasing consumption threatens the planet, do we as Quakers have
a clear
alternative vision of prosperity? And can we share it with others?
“There
is no wealth but life. Life, including all its powers of love, of joy,
of
admiration. That country is the richest which nourishes the greatest
numbers of
noble and happy human beings; that man is richest, who, having
perfected the
functions of his own life to the utmost, has also the widest helpful
influence,
both personal, and by means of his possessions, over the lives of
others.”
Unto
this last – John
Ruskin, 1860
The
weekend will be held at Glenthorne Quaker Guest House, Grasmere,
Cumbria,
from Friday evening, 4 June, until Sunday lunch on 6 June.
A
brochure, giving details of the programme, costs of accommodation,
directions
and an application form will be sent to meetings in due course.
