Sharing
and Discovering
Still
small
voice
A
worshipful day
at Malton meeting house,
Saturday 8 May
“Take heed, dear Friends, to the promptings
of love and truth in your hearts. Trust them as the leadings of God
whose Light
shows us our darkness and brings us to new life.”
“Do
not assume that vocal
ministry is never to be your part….When prompted to speak,
wait patiently to
know that the leading and the time are right … Pray that
your ministry may
arise from deep experience, and trust that words will be given to
you.”
What
is vocal ministry? What happens within the silence of a meeting for
worship
that brings someone to their feet and causes them to utter words?
What
happens to those who hear? How do we listen to those words or the
meaning
behind the words? What do we hear? How are we affected by what we have
heard?
If,
during our meeting for worship there is no vocal ministry, does this really
mean that the still small voice is absent?
Week
by week, we come together to worship in silence. We bring something of
ourselves to the meeting and we take something away. How much do we
understand
of what happens within that silence? How often do we share our
understanding? If
we try to explore what we each experience, will it
“spoil” the experience for
us or will it help us to find a deeper place another time?
This
will be a day for gently exploring the answers to these and other
questions
that arise, for valuing each others’ experiences.
